This reprint of S.M. Gardner and E.M.H. Ibbotson’s History of Ilmington (1974) has been produced with OCR software, the results being checked against the original by Richard Sharratt and Susan Brock. For the reader’s convenience, the original endnotes have been transposed to the end of each chapter, Roman numerals have been replaced by Arabic in chapter headings, and page numbers have been manually inserted. Otherwise the text is uncorrected.
A version of the 1974 text was published in A Cotswold Village: Ilmington 4000BC to the Present, by Stacy Pifer Ibbotson and Sylvia Gardner (Tir Mawr Press: La Jolla CA, 1995) where 'Some Dates of Importance' is updated to 1993.
